Paraphrase, ostensible, digress, uncanny, candor

“I want to live forever!” a man cried out. “So, you don’t want to die,” a devil skillfully paraphrased his words.

“I see that you brought me flowers – that is very nice of you, ‘Arry. However, your reasons for this (very pleasant, I shall say) surprise seem ostensible to me.”

He digressed so much that he turned around and ended up talking about things he started with.

It’s most uncanny a scene – a man barking at his dog; usually it’s the other way around.

Rim was a great scientist, brilliant analyst, and out-of-the-box thinker; nevertheless, his lack of candor made him known as a reticent person, as if Rim was afraid that his results would be stolen.
